The Modern Melton Wool
"Traditions made life special"
Traditionally used to make pea coats for mariners, the dense weave of melton makes it superbly resistant to both water and wind. A meticulously constructed shirt for the inclement weather of the Pacific Northwest, our versatile Modern Melton Wool is a contemporary take on a timeless design—made from warm post-consumer recycled wool, it’s soft, sturdy and naturally insulating, with elevated comfort and breathability for all-day wear. As our wool has already lived a previous life—the source garments are carefully salvaged before being sorted, processed and re-woven—it also features a felt-like touch that’s smoother than other wools, and it’s manufactured in a unique, dye-free process that saves water and eliminates the need for harmful chemical dyes. Our most durable and heaviest-weight style, the Modern Melton is finished with a button-down collar, a drop-in chest pocket, double-button sleeve plackets and a curved hem; the two-tone buttons are based on Canadian military buttons from the Second World War. A double yoke lies comfortably on the shoulders and adds additional weather protection, and a box pleat allows more freedom of movement across the back.
- Made in Canada
- 7-oz 80% post-consumer recycled wool/20% nylon. Warm, durable and naturally weather-resistant, this comfortable blend is manufactured in a unique dye-free process for reduced environmental impact. Melton starts out a touch stiff, but softens quickly with wear.
- Our traditional tailored fit has a moderately slim cut; to wear the Modern Melton as an overcoat, or to fit a more robust frame, we recommend moving up one size.
